![]() ![]() When running the screensaver app Xscreensaver it displays the following. For now, I'd be happy finding a way to know when xscreensaver starts doing its thing so that I can set up a trigger to modify the above-mentioned files and dim/turn off the backlight. Raspberry Pi (Xscreensaver) Monday, 01 June 2020 by paul. I've managed to manipulate the screen brightness and activate/deactivate the backlight by manipulating the files in /sys/class/backlight/rpi_backlight/, but I'd like this to become automatic.ĭoes anyone know of a way to tie this to the activation of xscreensaver? Whether I have it dim the screen by X%, or turn it off entirely, I'll figure out some other time. Even when the screen finally blacks out, the backlight always stays lit at max brightness. When xscreensaver turns on, the LCD backlight stays lit at 100% brightness. It's a lot of fun and I've been tinkering for like three days now and I'm having a blast! There's one thing I can't quite figure out yet, though, and I'm hoping someone here can help: To that, I've connected an official R-Pi 7" LCD touchscreen. I've installed Raspberry Pi OS (formerly Raspbian? I guess?) with an LXDE desktop, and the Pi-Hole software. ![]() I''m using an old Pi 2b+, but so far, it seems to be enough. Or maybe i just don't know it well enough. I've tried searching for this topic here, but the search functionality leaves something to be desired. I've intended to set myself up a Pi-Hole for quite a while now, but only just got around to it this week. I found out that clicking for long enough on the top of where the taskbar is, will show it and let you escape chromium.New user here, and first time poster. Im using PAMUSB to lock my RPi, which works fine. One more edit note, if you're using kiosk mode with chromium you might want to disable this two lines in ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart -profile -desktop -profile LXDE-pi One more thing that can be useful and easily added is to have it play a video file at random from a folder on each screensaver start. If you do want to try xscreensaver then you can install using: sudo apt-get install xscreensaver For those that want to go down the cmatrix path, this is the way to do it. ![]() If you would like to remove xscreensaver and its dependent packages. The CPU usage is staying very low (about 3% per core while playing), compared to mplayer, it's a day and night difference. You can use a package manager such as the Add / Remove software application included with Raspbian. Uninstall xscreensaver including dependent package. xscreensaver comes with several slideshows, but pretty much all of them suck because they insist on useless. Here comes the tricky part, I can't quite figure out yet. When the USB Stick is pulled, I use xscreensaver-command -lock to lock the machine. I have been testing it now for 4 hours and my Pi is happily staying at <60☌ with no cooling, whilst playing loop trailers. I'm using PAMUSB to lock my RPi, which works fine. I'm using Raspbian from NOOBS so I edited this file: vi ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostartīy adding this line to the end: whole autostart file for my kiosk looks like this: -profile -desktop -profile s s -i 's/"exited_cleanly": false/"exited_cleanly": true/' ~/.config/chromium -noerrdialogs -kiosk -kiosk-printing -incognito unbelievably great on my Pi 3, the script is not taxing the CPU at all. This little script/daemon utilises xscreensaver-command -watch and looks for a change of state. Then in the GUI go to Preferences > Screensaver > Display Modes > Select disable screen saver from the dropdown. usr/bin/xscreensaver-command -watch | process An easy way to achieve this is to install xscreensaver then configure it to disable (its also the Raspberry Pi recommended way) sudo apt-get install xscreensaver. Ok so there is virtually no info about how to successfully pair xscreensaver and omxplayer, so I took it as a challenge and came up with a workaround, that actually works. sudo apt-get install xscreensaver I notice that the Screensaver option is installed - HOWEVER some are installed and available, some are grey and ticked (not installed) and some are not even ticked (also not installed) - the ones that are installed are epic, very impressive. ![]()
